Yahoo! Axis has security flaw.

I told you yesterday of the new app from Yahoo! for iOS, and browser extension for Firefox, Chrome, and Safari, called Axis. Well apparently Yahoo! leaked some critical info about the browser extension that makes it vulnerable.

The Register:

Yahoo! today released its Axis extension for Chrome – and accidentally leaked its private security key that could allow anyone to create malicious plugins masquerading as official Yahoo! software.

Australian entrepreneur Nik Cubrilovic, who last year garnered notice for identifying Facebook’s tracking cookies, revealed the certificate blunder on his blog, and said users should not install the extension “until the issue is clarified”.

Code signing coming to Firefox Mac builds

Mozilla:

We don’t know exactly when 10.8 will be released to the public but some have speculated that it could be as early as the week of June 11th at WWDC 2012. We must have a signed and released Firefox out there before the general public starts upgrading and we’ve been working hard to make that happen as soon as possible. This post will give a short history of Mac signing at Mozilla and talk about our timeline for enabling it.

Gatekeeper by default, allows the user to install any app from the Mac App Store or from any developer that has authenticated themselves with Apple and obtained a certificate. This will be a great security feature to help avoid installing malware on your system. Nice move by mozilla.

8 Simple Tips to Secure a Mac from Malware, Viruses, & Trojans

Nice post by Mac OS X Daily. No need to panic, we’re not on Windows XP territory yet. Just follow common sense, and be careful. Also, follow these instructions on their site. As far as anti-virus goes, it’s up to you. On my Windows machines I only use Microsoft Security Essentials, and run as a Standard User (as well as on my Mac) and have been virus free for over four years now (on the Windows side, on the Mac, so far so good).

Although browser preferences are personal, I recommend using Chrome or Firefox (with Noscript). Last but not least, keep everything updated, the OS, browser, apps, plugins, etc. If you are running Lion, Java was not installed by default, and there is a very good chance you don’t need it at all.

Mozilla Marketplace Opening for App Submissions Soon

Mozilla Marketplace Opening for App Submissions Soon

Today, we are incredibly proud to announce that the Mozilla Marketplace will open for developer submissions next week during Mobile World Congress. If you are an app developer interested in distributing and monetizing your app across device and platform silos, you should submit your app to the Mozilla Marketplace. Submitting your app will reserve your app name and give your app the chance to be featured in the launch later this year.

Another app store, just what we need.
