Steam’d Penguins: Valve announces Steam coming to Ubuntu

Valve Software Blog:

Why Ubuntu? There are a couple of reasons for that. First, we’re just starting development and working with a single distribution is critical when you are experimenting, as we are. It reduces the variability of the testing space and makes early iteration easier and faster. Secondly, Ubuntu is a popular distribution and has recognition with the general gaming and developer communities. This doesn’t mean that Ubuntu will be the only distribution we support. Based on the success of our efforts around Ubuntu, we will look at supporting other distributions in the future.

Firefox Introduces a Simpler Update Process and More Than 85 Improvements to Developer Tools

The biggest difference is that it now follows the trend stablished by Chrome of updating silently in the background. It used to be my favorite browser, but it is not keeping up with the rest. Anyway, if you want it, it’s available for Windows, Mac or Linux [Link].

Ubuntu for Android

Ubuntu for Android

Android for the phone experience, Ubuntu for the desktop, all on one device, running at the same time.

So forget the office PC. Just dock your corporate phone and enjoy Ubuntu. Anywhere. One address book. One set of bookmarks. One place for your text messages and email. No more typing on a tiny screen when all you want is a keyboard and a mouse. Seamless integration of your desktop and mobile worlds. Brilliant.

The answer to a question no one asked…

Libre Office 3.5 released

Libre Office 3.5 released

If you don’t need a full fledged office program, just something to do quick spreadsheets, presentations, or word documents that don’t require too much fancy formatting, you should try this app. It’s pretty good and stable, works with files in the Microsoft Office format (for the most part, if they have too many fancy formats they may not work completely in the same way), and it’s FREE and Open Source. Available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
