Tim Cook on Windows 8

When asked by Richard Gardner of Citigroup whether Apple will eventually converge its iPad and MacBook Air products into a single computing device combining the portability of a tablet with the functionality of a keyboard and full desktop operating system, Cook dismissed the idea as poorly conceived.

Cook quipped “you can converge a toaster and a refrigerator, but you know, those things are probably not going to be pleasing to the user.”

Best quote by Tim Cook so far, genius.

Announcing the Windows 8 Editions

By Brandon LeBlanc, on the Windows blog:

Today I would like to share information with you on the editions that will be available for “Windows 8″ when it is released to market. We have talked about Windows 8 as Windows reimagined, from the chipset to the user experience. This also applies to the editions available – we have worked to make it easier for customers to know what edition will work best for them when they purchase a new Windows 8 PC or upgrade their existing PC.

Basically they have finally done what they should have done some time ago. There will only be three versions: Windows 8 (like Home & Home Premium), Windows Pro (Professional and Business)’ and Windows RT (for tablets or devices on ARM).

Speed Tests: Mac OS X Lion vs. Windows 8 Developer Preview

PC Mag did this speed test comparison between OS X Lion and Windows 8 Developer Preview. The test was done on a Mac, for OS X and Windows using Boot Camp. This is not by any means conclusive, as Windows is still in Beta, but from all the results, there is one that jumps out: Why is it that Windows stil takes 16 seconds to shut down? First time I saw a Mac shut down in no time, I thought it was broken (Linux also shuts down very fast), I was so used to my PC taking forever to shut off.
