Amazon now selling MP3s directly to iPhone, iPod touch users

The Verge:

You’ll need to use mobile Safari to do so, but Amazon says its iOS store has been designed using HTML5 and should offer customers everything they’ve come to expect: recommendations, user ratings, and discounted $5 albums / $0.69 songs are all offered via the new site. Additionally, purchases will be available for immediate streaming and download from within Amazon’s Cloud Player iOS app.

Plus, that gives you access to cloud storage for your music, this is very cool.

Amazon Quietly Closes Security Hole After Journalist’s Devastating Hack

Wired:

Previously, Amazon allowed people to call in and change the email address associated with an Amazon account or add a credit card number to an Amazon account as long as the caller could identify him or herself by name, email address and mailing address — three bits of personal information that are easily found online.

On Tuesday, Amazon handed down to its customer service department a policy change that no longer allows people to call in and change account settings, such as credit cards or email addresses associated with its user accounts.

Now Apple has to work on their side.

This means, ultimately, all you need in addition to someone’s email address are those two easily acquired pieces of information: a billing address and the last four digits of a credit card on file. Here’s the story of how the hackers got them.

Be afraid, very afraid. The password system is beyond broken.
