Blackberry smokes iPhone and Android…on the “I would never buy that” list.

All Things D

Of the consumers Raymond James surveyed, 20 percent said they would never buy an iPhone, 31 percent said they’d never buy an Android phone, and 71 percent said they’d never purchase a BlackBerry.

Hey, at least they’re number one. Right?

Mine was a Bold 8900. Great phone, got left behind.

The New BlackBerry Z10.

BGR:

Research In Motion told me that the screen has an “anti-fingerprint and grease coating” when I asked if it was oleophobic, but it really doesn’t work well. After using the phone for just a couple of hours, the display had grease all over it that couldn’t be rubbed off and it started to interfere with touch sensing for different tasks.

A touch screen phone that doesn’t like to be touched. Great.

Ford AppLink opens floodgates to in-car iOS, Android, and BlackBerry apps

ArsTechnica:

Pandora, Amazon Cloud Player, BeCouply, and Kaliki are four of the 63 in-car apps that currently make use of the microphones, speakers, control panels and smartphone connectivity found in Ford dashboards. With the free SDK kits available, they’re the first of a flood of apps that will provide useful content and services that help the driver without causing distraction—they use voice commands to avoid fiddly keypad text entry.

Great, more dumb assess distracted on the road.

RIM profit skids 97% but beats Street

USA Today:

The BlackBerry maker reported a third-quarter profit that slid 97% on revenue that was down 47% compared with the same period a year ago, beating Wall Street’s expectations.

RIM noted that it shed 1 million subscribers, down to 79 million in the quarter. The company also cautioned over service fees and increased spending on marketing of its next-generation devices.

Blackberry 10 looks cool, but I think it’s too late. It’s a shame, I had a Blackberry and I liked it a lot.

Federal agency to switch to iPhone, drop BlackBerry

Reuters:

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) said will end its contract with BlackBerry maker Research In Motion in favor of Apple’s iPhone, dealing a fresh blow to RIM just months ahead of its launch of a vital new device.

The agency said in a solicitation document posted last week that it intends to buy iPhones for more than 17,600 employees – a purchase worth $2.1 million.

The agency said it has relied on RIM for eight years but that RIM’s technology “can no longer meet the mobile technology needs of the agency”.

It also said that it had analyzed Apple’s iOS-based devices and Google’s Android operating system and concluded that for the near term Apple’s iPhone services offer the best technology for the agency because of Apple’s tight controls of the hardware platform and operating system.

RIM sucks, Android is a Free for all, that’s about it.
