Apple overtakes Samsung as top U.S. mobile phone vendor for first time in Q4 2012

The estimates from Strategy Analytics’ Wireless Device Strategies service saw Apple ship 17.7 million units accounting for a record 34 percent of the market during the three months ending in December, enough to squeeze by Samsung’s 32.3 percent share on 16.8 million shipments for the same period.

Apple is DOOMED!!! Samesung is WINNING!

As we surmised in our A6 Geekbench post, it looks like Apple specifically targeted improvements in the memory subsystem when designing the A6’s CPU cores. The result is the fastest SunSpider test we’ve ever recorded on a smartphone – faster even than Intel’s Atom Z2460.

But remember, Apple clearly doesn’t care about the web.

And it doesn’t have a “Quad Core CPU” or 2GB of RAM, that’s imposible!! Oh, wait, Apple optimizes the OS to the hardware, the others don’t.

Apple Ranks Highest in Customer Satisfaction among Smartphone Manufacturers

JD Power:

For the eighth consecutive study, Apple ranks highest among manufacturers of smartphones in customer satisfaction. Apple achieves a score of 849 and performs well in all factors, particularly in physical design and  ease of operation. HTC (790) follows Apple in smartphone rankings.

Enough said.

NASA builds Android-based satellite

NASA will launch the Android-powered Nexus One smartphone this fall as the brains of a tiny nano-satellite. The Android phone will be at the heart of PhoneSat, a 4-inch cube space agency engineers are building using off-the-shelf parts with a $3,500 budget.

And of course, if there is an update, they will have to wait for the carrier to approve.

T-Mobile adding unlimited data plans with no throttling on September 5th

The Verge:

All-you-can-eat voice, text, and data without throttling would run an individual subscriber $89.99 a month on the new plan, which T-Mobile points out compares to $110 on both Verizon and AT&T at the 4GB level and $109.99 on Sprint with unlimited data (which is also unthrottled). Look for the new packages to become available for new and existing customers on September 5th.

Now, if they get the iPhone…
