Chinese Government praises Apple for Apology

Reuters

With its rare apology, Apple Inc went from pariah to praiseworthy in the eyes of China’s state-controlled media, a lesson for other foreign firms not to underestimate the speed and power of the government press.

Last week, the Chinese Government chastised Apple for their warranty policies. Tim Cook sent a public apology for the misunderstanding, announcing changes to said policies. Today the Chinese praise Apple, and say that other companies should follow the example. People talk, stuff gets resolved. Go figure.

Toyota makes a ton more cars than BMW, but I don’t see people drooling for a Camry. Making the most anything does not make you the best.

Apple’s Scott Forstall and John Browett to leave firm

BBC:

Apple has announced a major shake-up of its management, with two senior executives to leave the company.

The announcement follows embarrassing problems with its new mapping software and disappointing quarterly results.

Scott Forstall, head of its iPhone software, will leave next year. He will serve as an adviser to chief executive Tim Cook in the interim.

Head of retail John Browett, the former Dixons boss, is also leaving after just nine months in the job.

Apple said the moves were a way to increase collaboration across its hardware, software and services businesses.

The management changes come a little over a year into Mr Cook’s reign as chief executive.

Like a Car that Flies and Floats

MacRumors transcription of the Apple Quarterly Conference Call:

Q: How do you think about the Win8 and Surface tablets?

A: Haven’t played with a Surface yet. What we’re reading about it is that it’s a fairly compromised, confusing product. One of the toughest things you do when making a product is to make hard tradeoffs. We’ve done that with the iPad and the user experience is incredible.

You could design a car that flies and floats, but I don’t think it would do those things very well. People look at the iPad and competitive offerings, I think they conclude the iPad is the better choice. [Tim Cook]

This quarter’s ToasterFridge.
